FAQ

Who can I bring?
Almost anyone twelve and older who's committed any sins (even things such as littering, shoplifting, lying, etc). They must be capable of feeling guilt, (new info:) and they must be somebody who's fit for a game that involves a lot of murder (put simply, the mods will take a moment to consider each and every character coming in).

Due to the mechanics, we cannot allow AUs (including CRAUs).

What kinds of Content Warnings (CW) or Trigger Warnings (TW) will this game have?
There is alcohol, murder, mental manipulation (e.g. memory loss, emotional manipulation), horror elements, dark humor, and everything that generally comes with underage people existing in a murdergame setting (romance could happen, for one). Consider carefully before joining us!

Are there any caps?
For players, it's 2 characters per. For the game itself, we'll accept a maximum of 15 characters, though we'll be built to do just fine with as few as 7.

And as for casts, it's a maximum of 2 for each.

How will the Memory Loss mechanic work?
Every Friday morning, everyone will wake up unable to remember what happened on Thursday (it will seem as though the entire day has been erased from their minds). Saturday night, all of their memories will be returned - excluding the person who killed. If they're still alive, they will remember everything except the murder itself (memories of everything directly post-murder is up to the player/s).

As such, for the sake of clarity: all players will be unaware of who's part of a case, namely during investigations and trials. The only time(s) they could/will learn is in the event of everyone voting correctly at the time or trial and/or in the event of a good (or golden) ending, at least ICly.

OOCly, all players will definitely know by endgame who was connected to each and every case (half the fun is secrets getting revealed, by the end, after all!).

So, put simply, there will be neither IC nor OOC knowledge of who killed someone at least until after voting. If the characters vote wrong, the true culprit will be revealed neither ICly nor OOCly.

After that point, the only way of knowing, ICly, who killed, will be through a good (or better) ending of the game. OOCly, everyone will know by the end.

Elaboration from Alex: First - I will start by looking at everyone's case samples. After that, I'll do a round of questions early on (in DMs) to fill in blanks. I might bring up parts of the setting that haven't been revealed yet, but I will trust each player to keep quiet about that until the big reveal - so, basically, everyone is at risk of learning spoilers (jk, since I will inform the player ahead of time - if the player doesn't want to know, I'll default to only places that have been revealed currently).

Second - RNG will be everything, and I'll screencap the lists and show it all after endgame for the fun of chatting about how the process went. So, yes, only I will know who the victim/culprit duo (or trio?) is! At the start, I will RNG for two cases, and then I will look at the case samples that have been provided and mold a case based on them. Everything will be kept as IC as possible.

On the form here, we ask you guys for a case sample. I'll need you to be as elaborate as possible! This case sample is covering for the lack of OOC knowledge, so I welcome any form of rambling.

Last - there is an IC reason that not even the characters will ever get a full picture, ever. Players will be given all the details in the end, and everyone can run wild with filling in blanks as a team, if they want! And, hey... if you guys ever want to take this and do some magical memory restoration stuff, once the game is over, I have absolutely no problem with it.

What about Powers and Items?
Everyone will keep a single power, and those without powers in canon will find that they are able to do something new - there's no guarantee that it'll be super helpful, but better than nothing? They will be able to keep one item. The power and item will be RNGed by the mods and listed in the acceptance response (in the event of more than one item/power).

The item will definitely be something of theirs, but their power will be RNGed from a full pool of powers (basically, they could get a power that belongs to someone else "apped" in, or they could get a power that belongs to nobody who got "apped" in).

How will Investigations/Trials Work?
Investigations will happen on Friday and Trials will happen on Saturday - both at Noon EST.

Investigations: Everyone will wake up to an annoying alarm going off from seemingly nowhere; said alarm won't turn off until they leave their house. After leaving the house, the investigation will officially begin for them. Every person will be required to find at least one piece of evidence for the sake of acquiring their Daily Player Point (see the section below for information on that). At 9 PM EST, the Investigation will come to an end, both ICly and OOCly (though evidence submission is allowed up until an hour before trial start).

Everything will be automatically sorted into an app on their phones, and they will be able to access that information during the trial period.

Trials: Everyone will wake up inside a large Modern Day Courthouse - they will be lying down on very uncomfortable benches that line the walls. That alarm will be going off until they step through the double doors that are impossible to miss (and there's a sign above said double doors that reads: Through Here, so)...

Once inside the courtroom, the alarm will stop and there will be a judge sitting there, informing them that the trial for the murder of [name(s) here] has begun. They will then use the evidence to decide who's guilty.

At 7 PM EST, the trial will come to an end, both ICly and OOCly (votes are due by this point).

They will be told to decide what to do with the guiltiest person (with set options presented), and they will only have 5 minutes to decide (ICly - OOCly, it will be an hour). Voting on the fate of the person will earn them their Daily Player Point.

What are Daily Player Points?
Every day, there will be a chance for each person to earn a point. This point is what they use to have daily access to the basement, where food, fresh clothes, showers, and safe drinking water can be found. The Daily Point will go directly into an app on their phone. As each phone is directly tied to each person (and will automatically reappear into the owner's pocket, whenever they're no longer touching it), it will be next to impossible for anyone else to use.

They may get chances for extra points, and each person will be informed of a big reward for whoever collects the most points by the end...

You said something about phones...
All characters will be given one! They only place to charge the phone will be in the music room, and not charging the phones at least once a day = no phone to use. Just remember: the music room doors are locked every night!

What's this about "finality of death"?
Death is very... permanent... in this game, and there will be no GY/Deadland.

Wha... What's with the pause there...?
:)

What did you mean about words on their skin?
Just to rehash what was said here:

All characters will wake up with words written across their face, neck, arms, legs, hands, and/or feet... You get the picture! Players get to people anything from 3-6 locations for the words to show up, but they will be all be white and in a font that is very difficult to make out (without the other person being up close and personal). The difficulty will be namely thanks to the size (it'll look kind of like this) and how pale it is.

Which will change, as the words get darker as each day passes, easing from white to darkening shades of gray, and then finally to black - for most people (more on this later into the game). The darkening can be influenced by character actions. Doing things to help each other, for instance, will pause the darkening of the words. The increased color will be monitored by mods and an update on all characters will be posted in a comment every three days (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday*) by 3 PM EST.

*Friday's will be included as part of the trial on the first week, and then under Friday's toplevel during week 2.

What if my character very stubbornly tries to go into the forest? What if they try to fight the NPCs? What if they break stuff?
Put simply: talk to a mod if your character is going to cause mayhem, break stuff, fight everyone, etc...

There will be no IC warning for punishments if your character very blatantly breaks any rules after they've been ICly stated. We'll try to work with each of you, though! OOCly, we will give you a chance to change your character's actions the first couple of times - just, if it turns into a repeated matter, we'll need to sit and discuss a few things.

Basically, we don't want anyone having to break away from ICness, but the mods already have a lot on their plate, too!

More will be added as needed and/or as things are asked about!
